Issue #16: Schmemann & Clément
1921 saw the birth of two great Orthodox theologians: Protopresbyter Alexander Schmemann (d. 1983) and Olivier Clément (d. 2009). December 13, 2018 will be the 35th anniversary of Schmemann’s repose and January 15, 2019 will be the 10th anniversary of Clément’s.
To mark this occasion, The Wheel will be devoting a special issue to the thought and legacy of these remarkable scholars and churchmen. We invite the submission of papers (and other media) examining any theme related to the life and work of Schmemann and Clément considered individually or in comparison. Suitable topics include (but are not limited to) liturgical theology, missiology, ecclesiology, ecumenism, interfaith dialogue, secularism, prayer and mysticism, and theological education. We will especially welcome contributions considering the reception of Schmemann’s vision beyond North America and the Orthodox Church and the legacy of Clément beyond the European context.
The deadline for the submission of completed manuscripts for consideration is October 1. Short proposals may be submitted for approval in advance. Please review our submission guidelines. Contact the Managing Editor for more information.
