Join the staff of The Wheel

Since its founding in 2015, The Wheel has been celebrated for its independent and courageous editorial content, levelheaded writing, and superior production. Its broad subscriber base includes senior leaders in the Orthodox Church and major academic libraries.

As The Wheel grows, we are seeking new team members who have passion, initiative, and experience. Bringing on the best people is one of our top goals as an organization. Applicants may be located anywhere in the world. Please note that The Wheel is a non-profit organization and staff work as volunteers or for a nominal stipend. If you work with The Wheel, you will have opportunities to contribute to a unique forum for Christian thought, to develop professional networks, and to gain experience in print and online publishing. In some cases, your work with us may be eligible for college credit.

If you believe you may be qualified for one of the following positions, we would love to hear from you! Contact us with your resume or short bio and tell us why you would like to work with us. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis and positions may be offered initially for a trial period. 


Make periodic updates to The Wheel’s website and troubleshoot occasional tech issues. Knowledge of basic HTML, familiarity with Squarespace and ability to learn other relevant web services, and an instinct for clean, simple design are desirable.

Time commitment: variable; 1–2 hours per week.

Webmaster


Associate Editor

Work tactfully with writers to improve their articles. Editorial responsibility ranges from broad structuring of article manuscripts to line editing. Excellent English writing and computer skills are essential. You must have a keen eye for detail. You should be able to meet regular deadlines and work collaboratively with the other Editors. Familiarity with some of The Wheel’s topic areas is ideal. Proficiency in relevant modern and ancient languages would be a bonus. 

Time commitment: variable according to quarterly editorial schedule; 2–6 hours per week. 


Business CONSULTANT

Track potential communities of interest (academic, social, artistic, faith, and so forth). Work creatively with the editors to uncover network linkages not considered previously. Study these communities’ interests and options for reaching out to them. Facilitate a discussion with editorial staff to select and sequence outreach activities, to tailor outreach approach and messaging, and to develop approaches for measuring outreach effectiveness.

Time commitment: 4–8 hours per week for the duration of the consultation. 


Social Media & Comms Guru

Manage and cultivate The Wheel’s existing social media accounts and email list. Develop new outreach channels. Post new content several times per week and track responses. Good writing skills, an eye for images, and an intuitive feel for social media are important skills. Familiarity with Orthodox/church media and communications is desirable. Creative development of our social media presence is a key priority for The Wheel

Time commitment: variable; 4 hours per week.
